ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the research design is looked at more closely. The research design followed a three-stage process that looked at the (1) Master narrative, (2) Counter narratives, and (3) My narrative. A master narrative is a script that specifies and controls how social practices are performed. In the context of this study, the reductionist narratives produced by academic scholarship on Saudi women in organizational/leadership contexts is explored (Chapter 4). Alternatively, counter narratives challenge the ways in which Othered identities have been constructed. Counter narratives are the Saudi women leaders’ multiple stories that push back against the chain of the single story, allowing the women to “write back” against colonizing discourses (Chapters 5, 6, 7). My narrative is an effort to move from behind the wall of anonymity to reveal personal stories that are touched by the Saudi women leaders. This chapter also explores the ways in which the women's stories are analyzed using Narrative and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Narrative Analysis takes the women's stories as a source of knowledge and a tool of surfacing subjectivity and culture simultaneously. CDA is used to understand the interplay between powerful discourses and the women's power over discourses.
