ABSTRACT

Murry’s conversion to communism did not shatter all the good resolutions with which he had arrived at Larling. Little by little, as the reverberations died away, his life gathered itself together according to the original pattern. Conferences and lectures, after all, took up only a small part of the year; most of his writing was done at home; and between writing much of his time was devoted to work of a practical nature, which, while providing a useful counterpoise, also helped to bind him to the neighbourhood and neighbours.
