ABSTRACT

This chapter will look at the law of leases. A lease is a proprietary right in a piece of land as opposed to a personal one. A lease is also known as term of years, tenancy, sublease, and leasehold estate. The three key essential elements of a lease are – exclusive possession, a certain term, and payment of rent. This chapter shall discuss the length of legal leases, equitable leases, as well as how a lease can be terminated.
