ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by considering the place of miracles in the cult of the saints in medieval England. It then goes on to consider medieval definitions of miracles and how they would have been understood by participants in the cult of the saints. This is followed by an exploration of the cult of the saints in medieval Europe and more specifically in England between 970 and 1170. A review of the relevant scholarship comes next, followed by an outline of the points of difference in this book. A summary of the chapters contained in the rest of this book finish the introduction.
