ABSTRACT
Weil would say perhaps that the supernatural mediates existence, undoubtedly that it gives it order. The supernatural, being beyond nature, is as distant and as different from existence as it is possible to be. Success in realising the purposes requires some understanding of the necessity in the natural order. Human skills, techniques and technology are all methods for using the natural order for our purposes so that these purposes are realised naturally, automatically, necessarily, according to the order of matter in nature. When his understanding also includes the relationship of ratios in levers, perhaps calculating an ideal position for the fulcrum to fit his work, he has moved another step closer to reality and its underlying order. It is central to her conception of human beings as progressive, as creatures who can be improved if only they fulfil their potential for contact and accord with the underlying order of reality.
