ABSTRACT

Since interests always compromise and principles heated by passion never compromise, turning social conflicts into simple struggles between interests by eliminating passions and principles from them would ensure social peace. Hence the formula of mandatory Syndicalism, which gives a voice to all. The struggle and competition between various organisations make men unreasonable, excite polemical passions and one-upmanship, and paralyse judgment; hence the formula of a single syndicalism. When it comes to syndicalism, one must ask what kind of mechanism would the organisation recommended by Detoeuf be. The institution of a single, mandatory, apolitical trade union is proposed to us as an admirably simple procedure for emptying social conflicts of the passions that make them bitter by making the trade union the interpreter of interests and interests alone.
