ABSTRACT

Frequently clients, perhaps most often between the ages of 45 and 55, come to us with a sense of vague malaise. They can tell something is off but they don’t know quite what. Motivation has dropped, connections to others seem less vital. Meaning seems distant and blocked. This chapter presents a way to turn our coaching methodology toward this topic. It discusses the issue of “midlife drift” and how to understand what’s happening, and recommends strategies for the reader’s coaching response, including important questions to ask both coach and client. The chapter ends with self-observation exercises for the client to practice.
