ABSTRACT

Planning for software activation begins during project initiation and continues through planning, execution, and controlling. This chapter reviews what it takes to have a successful activation, beginning with initial planning through the post-live support of end users. Training also will be included, since this activity occurs right before the go-live and is a key step to ensuring that everyone ready to begin using the new software when it is available. The development of the training material has to wait until the software is available to the training team. As with project management, communication is one of the most important aspects of activation planning. This includes communication to all stakeholders, such as the end users, organizational leadership, and the project team. Activation planning is a complex activity and includes several components. It requires a very detail-oriented person to help move the team through this lengthy process.
