ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the major characteristics of Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid methodologies, including advantages and disadvantages. Agile methodology works well for independent thinkers who enjoy being “outside the box” and are comfortable operating apart from standard procedures. The chapter provides an overview to assist in deciding what makes the most sense for a project or organization. Project management methodologies provide a blueprint of how to deliver projects. Project management is important to organizations and teams, but for it to be effective, the project management methodology must match the team type, project, organization, and goals. An assessment of the project environment is the foundation for choosing a comprehensive execution plan. Engaging stakeholders early and often enables the project manager to uncover customer attitudes, the degree of their flexibility, their desire for involvement, and their expertise to form the basis of an effective project management strategy.
