ABSTRACT

Chapter 31 relates to the engagement of forensic engineers: what corporate counsel (and forensic engineers) need to know about engaging forensic engineers. This chapter provides guidance for corporate (and other) counsel who must engage the services of a forensic engineer. Faced with such a need for the first time, counsel may be bewildered by the range of expertise available and may not be clear on the most suitable procedures for finding and engaging the most appropriate forensic engineer for the task in hand. The chapter suggests procedures for finding, engaging and managing a forensic engineer who is appropriately qualified, and who will deliver value for money with appropriate predictability and accountability. A forensic engineer who understands counsel’s requirements will be in a much better position to deliver the required services in a way that satisfies counsel’s needs.
