ABSTRACT
A Nasty Dose of the Yawns is an adventure story that is intended to appeal to all children. However, woven into the story is considerable information about what it is like to have dyslexia or persistent difficulties with literacy. Therefore, the book could be used to motivate those who are struggling with literacy by showing that learners can overcome problems and go on to succeed. In addition, the story is a useful resource to promote understanding and discussion among children, young people and adults who may not have considered the impacts of living with dyslexia. The following sections of the book are particularly relevant for readers who would like to encourage discussion about literacy difficulties. Some questions that could be used to promote debate are suggested below.
