ABSTRACT
Architectural filters embody solutions that combine concept, structure, and construction with function, message, and aesthetics and affect the senses through their phenomena of interference. This capacity to invoke atmospheres represents a fusion of precision and vagueness, the continuous implementation of which over time is indicative of their importance as an architectural strategy. The history of filtering boundaries goes back millennia, and persists today due to their capacity to solve a number of the growing complexities of contemporary architectural production, from functional and performative requirements to emotional and deeply human needs.
