ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is an exploration of the differences there may be between the effect of reading fictional texts to reading non-fiction. Theory of mind and perspective taking seem to be enhanced through fictional narratives in a way they may not be when reading non-fiction. Research participant views will continue this discussion about the elements of a book that engage and retain them. Whether any particular books should be considered ‘off-limits’ will be explored in the discussion between authors at the end of this chapter.
