ABSTRACT

This chapter focusses on aspects of inclusion in the RE classroom. The focus initially is on the importance of inclusion and the positive benefits this can bring. The discussion then explores differentiation in terms of pupils who have been identified as having special educational needs and those who are more able. Throughout both of these sections it is important to note that the setting of appropriate and challenging learning outcomes was at the forefront of differentiation, and the removal of potential barriers. In building a school that is inclusive and celebrates diversity, the last part of the chapter focusses on the role RE can play in helping establish such a culture and the reasons that might be important. In being inclusive, teaching can meet one of the stated aims that it gives all students equal access to Religious Education and provides enjoyment and success.
