This final overview chapter details the rest of the list of top 5 things that tutors should do when they get a new student: plan lessons, learn some basic lesson techniques, and conduct checks on the students’ progress. There is a template for lesson planning which will be referenced throughout the rest of Section 2, a list of recommendations for resource banks, and examples of lesson techniques with links to downloadable resources tutors can use. The majority of the chapter is devoted to the Basic Lesson Techniques guide, which forms the backbone of a new tutor’s repertoire of techniques and contains detailed advice on how to use them and where they will be most effective. Links to these techniques are given throughout the Section 2 chapters.
