ABSTRACT

This chapter offers support for nurturing students’ higher interactive thinking skills and guiding learners to become independent thinkers. Furthermore, as social media platforms and Artificial Intelligence technologies allow “virtually” anyone to develop fake audio and video, students need support as they attempt to understand these problematic substructures and questionable motivations. Encouraging critical thinking of controversial topics is especially needed today as some politicians exploit Americans who desire a better future for their families. Teachers must therefore assume a vitally important, but delicate, role of nurturing students’ analytical and critical thinking skills without imposing teacher bias, either directly or subtly. Although every thinking person has biases in favor of or against certain individuals, places, and things, teachers need to be keenly aware of their own biases and to not directly or subtly sway students toward accepting them.
