ABSTRACT

In this comprehensive chapter, teachers are provided with strategies, activities, and assignments that support students’ efforts to further understand critical thinking and to apply this deeper way of thinking to varied content. As students connect higher interactive thinking across the curriculum, they appreciate the value of transfer of learning. Meaningful ways and examples of achieving transfer value include channel-surfing; ThinkCERCA Platform; productive group work concerning the 1935 Social Security Act; Sports and Society Class; pairing of easy and challenging books; pairing of traditional books, graphic books, and film versions; use of quality literature to promote inference making with young children; painting writing and writing painting context; reflective practice and service learning; immigrants, jobs, and crime; independent reading, vocabulary development, and comprehension; creativity and problem solving; humor and creative problem solving; universities, corporate models, and whistleblowing; and propaganda devices.
