ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the exercises that are designed to support children who have experienced a painful loss. The exercises are designed to help them grieve, to make sense of what has happened and enable them to heal without the loss haunting their life as an unresolved trauma. The exercises also aim to provide a whole host of ideas to enable children to speak about their loss in unthreatening, supportive ways. The exercises can help children to speak about the subtle nuances, the intensity and the specific meaning of their painful life experiences. The exercises allow ease and flow to the conversation between practitioner and child. They empower the child to show, enact, draw their feelings often with real emotional clarity and depth.
