ABSTRACT

Nature religions highlight an interconnection of nature with humankind, and they take a variety of forms. This chapter highlights contemporary Paganism and Native American spirituality. Other forms are Wicca, Asatru, neo-Druidism, and New Age. Nature religions emphasize an interconnection of human beings with the natural world and lean toward ecology, and specifically environmentalism, as the central form of science. They have a nuanced relationship with modern technology and science, especially quantum physics, the Gaia Hypothesis, and evolution. Their deep connection with, and commitment to caring for, the natural world makes nature religions compelling for many today.
