ABSTRACT
Archie’s BIG BOOK is designed for facilitators to read out loud to students. The stories come directly from the manual, but the BIG BOOK adds a sparkling new dimension for children to listen and visualise the learning. For a programme to be regularly used and valued, it must be easy to follow, engaging to do, and simple to place into action. The predictable format builds familiarity for facilitators and students alike. The group values alert the children to what is expected, how to achieve expectations, and maintain a cooperative group spirit. They are positively phrased: be kind, be friendly, listen, ask for help, and do best. An ideal way to strengthen the group values is by catching the children doing them – jump in, praise, and give them a ‘thumbs up’ feedback card along with positive verbal feedback.
