ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the most important client variables which will maximise the chances that the client will get the most out of the process if used. It provides salient client variables that practitioners can help the client draw upon during single-session integrated cognitive behaviour therapy (SSI-CBT). The chapter also discuss the client characteristics that are helpful in the SSI-CBT process. While the outcome of SSI-CBT does depend, to some degree, on what practitioners as the therapist bring to the table, as important, or some would say more important, is what the client brings to the table. SSI-CBT also involves practitioners helping the client to identify and utilise their values. For the purposes of SSI-CBT, a good helping principle has the following characteristics: it can be expressed in a concise, memorable way; it guides action and it promotes coping, preferably in the face of adversity.
