ABSTRACT

As a result of the fierce debate between Lukács and others and the “vulgar materialism” of the Second International, the question of whether Marx's doctrine originates in Kant or Hegel becomes central to Marxism. Following Lukács, one should in today's context re-emphasise the profound connection between Marx's doctrine and Hegel's philosophy that pivots around the concept of social reality and its development course, and reject the regressive attempt in the name of Kant to exclude Hegel from Marx's doctrine, which can only give way to subjective thought and external reflection. However, Lukács's subjectivist and messianic tendency also cannot grasp genuine social reality.
