ABSTRACT

The public reading of the first report on the polyclinic’s activities took place in 1922, two years after the clinic opened. It concerns the authority of psychoanalysis as such, its mission in civilisation. The authority of psychoanalysis thus designates the origin and the temporal projection involving the time of its foundation and what it becomes. Establishing the authority of psychoanalysis in society was one of the three objectives of the psychoanalytic enterprise that Freud set out at the Nuremberg congress of 1910, at the time of the creation of the IPA. The authority of psychoanalysis corresponded to a truth, which would end by imposing itself on civilisation and being accepted by it. The various members of the audience were asked to answer questions about the specific mechanisms of the neuroses, about the aims of analytic therapy and the manner in which it proceeds, and about what a patient looks like after a completed and successful analysis.
