ABSTRACT

The author describes his 30 years of personal bodywork to illustrate the range and possibilities of transformation as well as issues to be considered when working with physical contact. By combining his personal work with professional theory, he demonstrates how personal forms of bodywork, training, and knowledge of theory are essential prior to engaging in this treatment with patients. The chapter also distinguishes between embodied interactions that are used intrapsychically by the patient and more relational experiences of touch and how both can facilitate embodied transformations for the patient.
