ABSTRACT

The author devotes three chapters to one case in order to provide a comprehensive clinical example of working with embodied therapy in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Each of the chapters emphasizes one area of embodied therapy treatment. This chapter details working with the patient’s childhood traumas, treatment in which touch was instrumental in helping the patient regulate her emotions and body sensations in order to address her childhood issues of chronic sexual abuse and neglect. The author emphasizes how the initial talk therapy helped inform and guide the embodied therapy, which occurred later in treatment.
