ABSTRACT

This chapter attends to research-based best practices for common curriculum design (as conceptualized by Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacob and her colleagues) and the next practices that support the explicit instruction of content, skills, and strategies that empower multimodal composition specifically (as inspired by Julie Stern, Krista Ferraro, Kayla Duncan, and Trevor Aleo). Readers will learn how to design units and lessons that enable the explicit instruction of multimodal composition. They’ll also explore a variety of tangible—and multimodal—planning frames that will help them align and design learning experiences that ignite creativity without compromising quality.
