ABSTRACT
The classroom is a factor of identity development, shaping understandings of self and others. This chapter explores the sociopolitical landscape of schools, helping us to understand the inherent political nature of education. Teachers must explore the connection between identities and societal systems, identify forms of oppression, and learn how to decenter whiteness in education.
