ABSTRACT
Identity threats hinder one’s sense of belonging in the classroom. This chapter will provide research pertaining to identity theorists and how our navigation in the world is impacted by socially constructed ideologies that may need to be unlearned. Educators can teach students how to eliminate identity threats through helping them understand the functions of the brain, root causes of biases, and how to have brave conversations to see each other as fully human.
