ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on how entrepreneurship is practiced within sport and leisure (SL) communities. In doing so, it will highlight the importance and complexity of interaction with external stakeholders and how these networks can be potentially mobilised to advance entrepreneurial activity and innovation within these sectors. Case studies explore the rapid rise of connected fitness and technological advancements for the health and fitness sector, innovation in non-profit sports organisations with specific insights from tennis, the evolution of trampoline parks, programme innovation for major and mega sports events, and digital fan engagement in communities. The chapter concludes with an exercise in how to manage radical innovation within SL communities by considering blood glucose monitoring for high performance sport.
