ABSTRACT

The chapter highlights a selection of future innovation challenges for sport and leisure (SL). We discuss the implications of climate change, the ageing population, and the move towards a greater use of outdoor facilities, post pandemic. These challenges are intertwined with changes in customer expectations surrounding the appropriate levels of technology within SL activities, requiring consideration of hybrid offers and data use and analysis to provide localised and personalised products and services. We then turn to SL organisations and present a diagnostic tool. This tool will enable managers to understand their current capabilities for innovation and where they need to change their entrepreneurial practices to be able to address current and future SL innovation challenges.
