ABSTRACT

This chapter provides concrete and specific recommendations for effective inclusion efforts, particularly in relation to staffing. Over the past few years, many conservatories have added staff positions intended to support students of color and/or explicitly dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work. It is not clear that these positions are consistently designed to be effective in ameliorating the challenges of students of color. Below are recommendations to guide both institutional leaders in crafting effective position descriptions and staff hired to fill these positions.
