ABSTRACT

The concept of equity is often misunderstood. In this chapter, I argue that a socially just conservatory should implement policy-level equity provisions for students. Needs are discussed specific to low-income students, LGBTQ+ students, and disabled students. Cisgenderism, heteronormativity, transphobia, homophobia, and misogyny are inextricably linked. Space is devoted to the discussion of transgender issues because these larger issues affect everyone.
