ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses matrices as strategic planning tools to help leaders and managers devise strategies for future growth. These include: the Ansoff Matrix and how it gave rise to later and more famous grid models like that developed by Blake and Mouton; the Growth–Share matrix, including modern updates on it, also known as the Boston Consulting Group matrix; the GE-McKinsey three-by-three Focus-Energy matrix, which helps to develop a portfolio management model to guide a systematic approach to prioritise multi-activity operations.
