ABSTRACT

This is a technical chapter that discusses job evaluation as a systematic way of determining the relative importance of jobs by describing each one in terms of its component parts. The Profile Guide Chart method, widely regarded as the industry standard, is described from its roots in earlier factor comparison methods. The underpinning three-factor codification of jobs in terms of know-how, problem-solving and accountability is described. The scales on the guide charts and post-evaluation checks are included along with full charts and examples of how to use them.
