ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses situational or contingency theory, which flows fairly seamlessly from behaviour theory. It discusses formative writers in the field, including Hersey and Blanchard, and earlier work by Frederick Fiedler. Reddin’s 3D Leadership Model is also considered in terms of how best to arrive at planned objectives, as is John Adair’s Three-Circle Action-Centred model, which aligns well with the work of Maslow, McGregor and Hertzberg discussed in the previous chapter.
