ABSTRACT

This chapter describes Genba Kaizen, the Japanese concept of continuous improvement in lean organisations, and applies it for the first time to education. It is linked to the concept of High Reliability Schools discussed in Chapter 1 and later in Chapter 14. Like Genba Kaizen, High Reliability Schools (HRS) have a widely distributed sense of responsibility, have shared goals at all levels, are alert to emerging failures, and have access to and use relevant data. And like Genba, HRS standardise processes and practices into Standard Operating Procedures to spread best practice.
