ABSTRACT

This chapter covers some of the tools and technology that may be used when planning and deploying a human remains detector (HRD) canine. Considering the behavior of the victim and/or suspect may be helpful in determining where to look. Mapping (general, terrain, and soil) and weather are also essential information to consider before responding to a search. Different tools to consider to either enhance or augment the success of an HRD canine team include both invasive and noninvasive tools that can be used in both land and water searches. Development of tools and technology that can enhance success of locating decedents continues each year.
