ABSTRACT

This chapter examines solution-focused inspired host leadership as a practical method of linking adventure leadership with therapeutic practice. The authors present solution-focused considerations for expedition-based outdoor therapy and group activity with accounts from past expeditions, including concepts, such as therapy time is anytime, facilitating campfire debriefs, and options in group work. Not all outdoor therapy practitioners go on expeditions to remote places. Some use experiential learning and adventure activities for groups and families within the grounds of outdoor centers, such as low and high ropes courses, problem-solving games, and teamwork/team-building exercises. Solution-focused practice works just as well in these settings as case vignettes illustrate this robust practice.
