ABSTRACT
The main thesis advocated in this chapter is that the technocratic project aims to build a perfectly rational and rationalised society not only through the elaboration of a discourse on the means (instrumental rationality and adaptive rationality) but even on the targets (substantial rationality). Even better, the mission of any technocratic project as a device of power appears to be precisely that of creating a close union between these two dimensions.
