ABSTRACT

After having been admitted, it is time for students to embark on their studies. Their very first encounter with the school is through the student union. As the observations in this chapter suggest, this organization will prove essential to the education and consecration offered. It is even fair to claim that the student union, a nonpolitical entity which is formally known as the Student Association of the Stockholm School of Economics, is the “true school”; it is here that students not only learn the essential tricks of the trade to become business leaders but also where they embrace a self-view as “elite.” In this chapter, it will be reported how the students are formed by the activities of the union during their entire education, where the business community’s active participation forms an important part. Basically, the student union trains students to become future decision-makers and managers both in terms of social and aesthetic skills and in terms of certain morals and behaviors.
