ABSTRACT

When the day is done, you need to be able to shut it down and turn work off for at least 8 hours or so. This sounds easy, until you try and put it into practice. I personally struggle with this regularly and have certainly shorted my family some well-deserved time over the years, but I strive to get better! I am sure you all can think of a friend who needs to spend a few less nights out at the bar and a few more nights in watching a movie. This person was probably the life of the party when you all were a little younger. Their antics were hilarious, and you truly wanted to spend time around them due to their pleasant disposition and willingness to have fun at all costs. However, as the years went by, your friend stayed on the same schedule of going out and although their antics are still amusing, you can now only take them in small doses. Overworking yourself can produce diminishing and then negative returns over time. There must be a safe space or release activity that separates you from your work. You need to make sure you have time away from the sales world in order to maintain your level of productivity. You also have to allow your customers time to recover, or you run the risk of alienating them. The constant “full court press” of your clients will actually lead them to avoid you, no matter how good you and your product are, because you are simply grinding them down.
