ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5, the authors provide a template for planning daily lessons that focus on particular aspects of antiracism. Building on the 4-Stage Intergroup Dialogue framework of Michigan State University, the authors present a step-by-step approach to engaging challenging content. They help educators build antiracist lessons that range from lower risk (community building) to higher risk (antiracism) engagement. All lessons incorporate scaffolded ideas for novice to advanced proficiency levels. Lessons incorporate vignettes of different languages, levels, and proficiencies. All lessons include proficiency standards and assessments.
