ABSTRACT

In the form of an auto-ethnographic triptych, this chapter reflects on the experience of homecoming from different perspectives and at different moments over a ten-year period. It contains three separate texts which, together, articulate a story of academic mobility and displacement. The first text was written in 2012, two years after my return to Spain, in the context of a collective mobilisation of Ramon y Cajal research fellows. The second text was written in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at Glasgow University, where I did part of my undergraduate degree and my PhD. The last text of the triptych reflects on my experience of securing tenure through the Spanish system of competitive examinations.
