ABSTRACT

The last chapter will bring together the blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI). It will discuss potential overlaps and the limitations of both fields. AI is mostly a centralized and probabilistic approach which is a black box for outsiders. The blockchain technology is at its core a decentralized and deterministic approach with a very high degree of transparency.

This chapter discusses potential overlaps which can be found in the health-care sector or the Internet of Things (IoT). Both technologies have also enabled new criminal business models. The origins of the blockchain technology are closely related to illicit activities. AI can be used for different crimes such as audio and video impersonation which are often called deepfakes. The chapter closes with an outlook on the future development and some thoughts on a social decentralized finance space.
