ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies areas of clinical nutrition most relevant to dancers. This includes gut health, its importance and role in boosting the dancer’s immunity and well-being. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) a common gut condition experienced by dancers is covered; its causes and treatment will be discussed here. A condition experienced by female dancers, polycystic ovary disease (PCOS) is addressed. Other topics in this chapter include managing food allergies, food intolerances or coeliac disease while meeting the demands of dance, and information for dancers managing the challenges of type 1 diabetes. The final section focuses on nutrition for those who have had viral illnesses, whether Covid or another virus which has impact on well-being long after the initial illness has resolved.
