ABSTRACT
The basic word order in Zhoutun is SOV. Compared to other Sinitic varieties spoken in the Gan-Qing linguistic area, the SOV in Zhoutun is rigid rather than preferred (Zhou 2017). Zhoutun also has a number of word-order patterns that are in harmony with the OV order, while a few other patterns reflect the VO order (Dryer 1992).
