ABSTRACT

As we have previously discussed, higher level skills are in short supply in industries as diverse as construction, health, pharmaceuticals, defence and high technology, with even greater shortages predicted given demographic trends. Demand is high for the talent and the skills needed for jobs that will remain in human hands – those involving managing people, applying expertise or creativity, and social interactions. In PwC’s 20th CEO survey (2017), 77% of the CEOs interviewed saw the lack of availability of key skills as the biggest threat to their business. With ‘the war for talent’ back with us, offering opportunities for development is key to attracting talent. With growing talent shortages, it’s no longer a question of simply finding talent; we also need to build it.
