ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an evaluation of recorded music containers’ technological and social affordances through their complex relationship with the practices of collection and curation of music. The association of certain practices with certain containers and the remediation of formats as well as social practices themselves are discussed. This historical discussion allows for a positioning of personal playlisting practices on streaming platforms using media change and remediation as the main approach.
