ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the failed legal and political attempts to overturn the fairest and most secure election in the United States history. It highlights how the two Big Lies provided the fuel for right-wing extremist groups such as the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys, and the Three Percenters with justifications for their violent assault on the Capitol. The chapter underscores the legal and illegal actions taken by Donald Trump and other elected and non-elected officials of the Republican Party to suppress millions of African American voters and to perpetuate the Big Lies before and after the failed election and insurrection. It then compares a stolen election vs. election tampering and whitewashing a failed insurrection vs. investigating and covering up a failed coup. The chapter also focuses on Teflon Don the Racketeer-in-Chief. Trump’s 2016 winning election was not so much a political fluke, a dislike of Hillary Clinton, or unexpected disruption of radicalization.
