ABSTRACT

This chapter covers time before Donald J. Trump’s birth and ends when he announces his candidacy for the presidency in 2015. It provides a brief on the evolution of organizational crime vis-a-vis the trajectories of Benjamin Bugsy Siegel and Trump. The chapter also provides a protracted treatment of the sociocultural background from which the Donald would eventually reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as the White House “Mobster-in-Chief.” Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and “Teflon” Donald Trump came from contrasting neighborhoods and socioeconomic backgrounds, lived in very different times, and yet they both became organizationally very powerful crooks. Donald’s father at the age of 18, in partnership with his paternal grandmother, began a career in home construction and sales. Known as Donald’s mother, Miss MacLeod was one of ten Scottish children born into a family of poverty who spent most of her adult life as a Scottish-American philanthropist married to Fred Trump.
